中國人有一句名言「物極必反」，也就是說很多事情沒有永遠的對與錯，這十年來很多管理學者所批判的終身雇用制，卻有可能因此也造成員工「自我意識」而失去了對企業的忠誠度，也讓不少企業也開始重新思考與實施「終身雇用」的制度，來促進員工與組織能共同的永續發展。

中華人事主管協會資深講師 吳昭德指出，「終身僱用」這個制度與觀念是源於日本企業的做法，因為員工終身在一間企業工作，內心自然而然也就將公司當成是自己的家一樣的對待，這樣的制度曾經造成日本企業的強大與風光，但是在上世紀末卻因為人力資源過於僵化，造成日本經濟的衰退，所以遭受很多管理學者與專家的批判，認為日本企業的這套作法與觀念，影響了也衝擊到企業整體的競爭力，但是，經過這些年的發展，很多人力資源專家又重新思考員工的忠誠度與向心力，畢竟如果企業過於在於「利益」與持續成長，卻未讓員工工作同時擁有保障，其實是很難讓員工願意長期對企業有忠誠度，當然員工也只會從對「自己」有利的角度來思考，一旦個人利益到手或者是企業獲利與股價不如以往，立即跳槽走人。
